1776
Member of the Second Continental Congress
Served on the Continental Congress that would decide we would need to seperate ourselves from the British. He would be chosen to draft the Declaration of Independence. He would lay the foundation upon which the country was built.
1776-1781
House of Delegates of Virginia Governor of Virginia
Served the state of Virginia for 15 years in the House of Delegates of Virginia and as the Governor of Virginia.
1784-1789
Trade commissioner in France and the U.S. Minister
Sent to France to take lead of trade treaties with European nations, mainly France and England. Jefferson would eventually negotiate a treaty with Prussia and the Consular Convention with France. Jefferson would do extensive studies of the cultures of Europe. Jefferson then would be elevated to position of U.S. minister.
1790-1793
Secretary of State under George Washington
Would serve as a valuable piece to increasing the country's geopolitical standing. Jefferson was in favor of increasing ties with the French since they helped us in the Revolutionary War.
1796-present
Vice-President to John Adams
He protested against the tyrannical Alien and Sedition acts and is now trying to bring down those who supported it.
